Listed in the 1880 census as 2 years old.² As of 1880, Elizabeth Melinda Jones was also known as Malinda E. Jones.

Elizabeth married Ernest Albert Miles, son of William R. Miles and Maria Dana, on 6 January 1903 at 1201 Garden Street, Santa Barbara. Wedding attendees included Ellen J. Marshall and John Marshall. The wedding was held at the home of Mr. & Mrs. John Marshall who befriended Elizabeth while she worked in Santa Barbara. Mrs. Marshall was born in Story County, Iowa.⁴ Her married name was Miles. She and Ernest Albert Miles lived at 507 West De La Guerra Street, Santa Barbara from 1904 to 1905. Elizabeth was not listed in the 1905 Directory.^5,6 She and Ernest Albert Miles lived at 600 West Ortega Street, Santa Barbara 1906 with Nell Elizabeth Miles and Nelson Albert Miles. Elizabeth and children were not listed in the 1906 Directory.⁷ She and Ernest Albert Miles moved from Santa Barbara to L.A. after Nelson and Nell were born and bought a house at 2910 West 14th. Los Angeles just before the World War 1. They bought a piece of land out in the San Fernando Valley and built a nice two story Spanish style house using money Elizabeth inherited. Ernest refused to ok extra money needed to enlarge width of the house by six feet. Circa 1907 at 2910 West 14th Street, Los Angeles, California.⁸

Listed as 49 years old, married at age 22, born in Iowa whereas her mother was born in Indiana while her father was born in Illinois, she can read, write and speak English, occupation is housewife.¹¹
Ernest Albert Miles sold property described as Lot 8 in Block "C" of Harvard Heights Tract per map in Book 3 Page 59 at 4705 Whitsett Avenue, North Hollywood, California, to Elizabeth Melinda Miles on 13 July 1936. Have not been able to verify that this property is in fact 4705 Whitsett Avenue. Also did not find Ernest's acquistion of same.¹² She and Ernest Albert Miles lived at North Hollywood from 1936 to 1945.^13,8 In 1945 Ernest and Elizabeth sold their house and moved to Hemet, California. There, at 1800 East Whittier, they had a ranch of 15 acres of apricots and they also had chickens in the begining (Elizabeth ('Nanny') never was so keen on the chicken part).⁸ Ernest Albert Miles and Elizabeth Melinda Miles bought property described as Lot 3 in Block 179 of Lands of Hemet Land Company as shown by map in Book 1 Page 14 at Dartmouth Street & Whittier Avenue, Hemet, California, on 8 June 1945. This is a ten acre lot.¹⁴ She lived with Nelson Albert Miles and Helen Grace Johnson for a couple of years in the early 1970s at at 10607 Bowman Avenue, South Gate, California.¹⁵ There was a family gathering in Hemet in the late 1940s.⁸
Elizabeth and Ernest Albert Miles received a letter about 6 February 1950, from Bill Miles,describing life in Saudi Arabia.¹⁶ She lived at an apricot ranch, NE Corner of Dartmouth & Whittier, Hemet, California circa 1954.⁸ She was apricot farmers in 1954 at Hemet, California.⁸ [Witness] lived with Fernando A. Savala and Caroline Elizabeth Gould in 1954 at at NE Corner of Dartmouth & Whittier, Hemet, California. He occupied the ranch chicken house.⁸ She attended the marriage of Caroline Elizabeth Gould and James Eugene Radja on 29 August 1954 at North Island Chapel, San Diego, California.⁸ Elizabeth also lived with Harry and Grace Miles before entering the nursing home.⁸ She lived at a nursing home from September 1971 to November 1972.⁸ She died of breast cancer leading to carcinomatosis on 20 November 1972 at Alexandria Convalescent Hospital, 1515 North Alexandria Avenue, Los Angeles, at age 96. According to the death certificate, she suffered from breast cancer for seven years.¹⁷ She was buried on 22 November 1972 in the Valhalla Memorial Park located in North Hollywood, California. The mortician was Pierce Bros. of Valhalla Cemetery.^8,17
