     Jacob Slomovitz was born on 17 March 1880, son of David Slomovitz.^3,4

Jacob married Freida Slomovitz in 1905.¹ He immigrated to the United States sailing from Hamburg, Germany on 15 November 1905. However, no immigration records available to confirm his claim.² He and Freida Slomovitz could not be found in the New York City Directory or the 1907-1908 Telephone Directory from 1907 to 1911. From his passport application it appears they moved to Wilkes Barre, PA in 1910. But they also did not appear in the 1910-1911 Wilkes Barre City Directory.^5,6,7 He lived at 45 Carbon Lane, Wilkes Barre, Pennsylvania from 1912 to 1914. He is listed as Jacob Slumovitch a "huckster". A Wolf Geller lives at the same address.⁸ He lived at 78 North Sherman Street, Wilkes Barre, Pennsylvania in 1918. He is listed as 'Jacob Slomowitz', a meat cutter.⁹ Jacob was registered for the World War I draft on 12 September 1918 at Wilkes Barre. Listed himself as a naturalized citizen, owning and running a general store and meat market at 722-724 Main Street, Sugar Notch, Luzerne County. He is shown as 38 years old, born 17 March 1880. Nearest relative is Freida Slomovitz of the same address in Wilkes-Barre.³ He lived at Wilkes Barre in 1919. Jacob is listed as a grocer. Living at 77 North Sherman is 'huckster' Adolph Slomowitz.¹⁰

Owns his own home. Born in Hungary as were his mother and father. Immigated in 1908, speaking Jewish in his prior home, and was naturalized in 1914 and able to speak English. Employed as a grocer in his own store. Enumerated with the head of household was/were Freida Slomovitz, Esther Slomovitz, Freida Slomovitz, Goldie Slomovitz, Gertrude Slomovitz, Herman Slomovitz and Abreham A. Slomovitz.⁴
He was naturalized on 14 September 1920 at at the Common Pleas Court, Wilkes Barre, Pennsylvania.² He applied for a US travel passport on 4 September 1923 at Wilkes Barre. He is described as 33 years old and 5 feet 3 inches tall and no distinguishing marks. He intends to visit Austria-Hungary, Roumania, England, Czech-Slovakia, Italy, France and Germany. In Roumania, he expects to visit his aged mother. He intends to leave as soon as possible from New York on the SS Leviathan. He currently lives at 194 East Northampton Street, Wilkes Barre. Mr. Samuel Sicherman, steamship agent, of 19 North Main Street, Wilkes Barre, filed an affidavit that he has known Mr. Slomovitz personally for 12 years and that the facts of Jacob's affadavit for the passport are true to the best of his knowledge.² He had his lawyer, Mose H. Salsburg submit his application to have his passport renewed for an additional year on 11 September 1924. On account of business matters he was unable to go abroad as intended but expects to do so "in the near future".² He lived at 20 West South Street, Wilkes Barre, Pennsylvania in 1925. He was listed as in real estate at 118 South Washington Street which is close by his residence. (But, on the street portion of the directory he is listed at 118 East Northampton Street which is closer to his passport application.) He is listed with a "Frances" who works at the Diana Dress Shop - this is probably wife Frieda. Harry Slumowitz, grocer, lives next door at 120 East Northampton.^11,12 He travelled to Europe in 1925. He returned to New York from Cherbourg, France on the SS Leviathan on 10 August. He is listed on the ship's manifest as a married male US citizen with passport No. 337927 of 7 September 1924, living at 20 West Fork at Wilkes Barre, PA.¹³ He and Freida Slomovitz lived in 1927 at Wilkes Barre. He was listed as in real estate.¹⁴

Owns his own home, with a radio, worth $70,000. Born in Austria as were his mother and father. Immigated in 1907, speaking Hungarian in his prior home, and is naturalized and able to speak English. Employed as a real estate dealer in his own business. Enumerated with the head of household were Herman Slomovitz, Freida Slomovitz, Esther Slomovitz, Freida Slomovitz, Goldie Slomovitz, Gertrude Slomovitz, Edward Slomovitz and Harry Slomovitz.¹
He and Freida Slomovitz lived in 1931 in at Wilkes Barre. He was listed as in real estate.¹⁵ He and Freida Slomovitz lived in 1933 at 129 South Grant Street, Wilkes Barre, Pennsylvania. Jacob is listed as selling cigars at 171 South Main Street.¹⁶ He and Mahlon E. Casterline names appeared on the Front Page of the Sunday Independent on 25 March 1934 at Wilkes Barre, Pennsylvania. The article read in part: "Icy streets cause accidents: Jacob SLOMOVITZ, 54, 129 S. Grant St., Wilkes-Barre - auto accident. Mahlon CASTERLINE, 24, of 944 E. Market St. - auto accident."¹⁷ He and Freida Slomovitz lived in 1935 at Wilkes Barre. Jacob is listed as liquor retailer at 99 East Northampton Street. This residence is within one mile of the residence of 1925.¹⁸
