     Mahlon Casterline was born on 18 August 1854 at Pennsylvania, son of Joseph Casterline and Elizabeth Casterline.^2,3

Mahlon Casterline was enumerated with Joseph Casterline on the census of 31 August 1860 at Buck Township, Pennsylvania, as Mahlon Casterline. Listed as 6 years old, born in Pennsylvania and has attended school within the year.¹


Mahlon married Philomena Dinstel, daughter of Agusta Dinstel and Rosalia Unknown, on 12 September 1878. Witnesses: Mrs. Dinstle, mother and Amehlia Fenner.
Family bible says took place in Mr Dinstle's "Toboharres"???⁴ He Could not find Mahlon or any of the other Casterlines in the 1880 census. In 1880.

Mahlon Casterline is shown as head of household on the US census of 8 June 1900 at Bear Creek Township, Pennsylvania, as Malen Casterline. Listed as 45 years old, married for 22 years, farm home rented, able to read, write and speak english, born in Pennsylvania, mother and father born in Pennsylvania, currently working as a day laborer. Enumerated with the head of household was/were Philomena Dinstel, Elsie Casterline, Edward Eugene Casterline, William Augustus Casterline, Elmer Hanson Casterline, Joseph Stewart Casterline, Lewis Adam Casterline, Charles D. Casterline, Agustive Harvey Casterline, Rosalia Casterline and Manda Gannon.⁵


Mahlon Casterline is shown as head of household on the US census of 18 April 1910 at 20 North Dickerson Street, Laurel Run Borough, Pennsylvania, as Mahlon Casterline. Listed as 56 years old, owns his house free and clear, married 31 years, born in Pennsylvania as was his father and mother, he cannot read or write but can speak English, currently working as a wood cutter on a timber tract. Enumerated with the head of household was/were Philomena Dinstel, Elsie Casterline, Annie Casterline, Elmer Hanson Casterline, Charles D. Casterline and Rosalia Casterline.⁶


Mahlon Casterline is shown as head of household on the US census of 2 January 1920 at Laurel Run Borough as Malen Casterline. Listed as 66 years old, home owned (free of mortgage), able to read and write, born in Pennsylvania, father born in New Jersey but mother unknown, speaks English, occupation 'laborer' on 'road???'. Enumerated with the head of household was/were Elsie Casterline, Annie Casterline, Rosalia Casterline and Philomena Dinstel.⁷


Mahlon Casterline is shown as head of household on the US census of 9 April 1930 at Laurel Run Borough as Mahlon Casterline. Listed as 75 years old, owner of $3,000 home without a radio and does not live on a farm, married at age 24 years, has not attended school or college in last six months, born in Pennsylvania as was his father whereas his mother was born in Hamburg, Germany, he cannot read, write but can speak English, is a laborer in a "boro rad" but not currently employed, not a veteran. Other nearby Casterline families included: Edward, Joseph, Albert and Raymond plus the Ervin Prutzman family. Enumerated with the head of household was/were Philomena Dinstel, Elsie Casterline and Annie Casterline.⁸
He died on 17 April 1944 at Pennsylvania at age 89. He was buried in the Fern Knoll Burial Park located in Dallas, Pennsylvania.²
