Ervin Prutzman - 1940
     Ervin Prutzman was born on 22 November 1894 at Spring Brook, Pennsylvania. Birthday from handwritten note. His WWI draft registration shows 7 November 1894. The SSDI and his grave marker show 19 November 1893.1,2,3,4 Ervin was registered for the World War I draft on 5 June 1917 at Wilkes Barre, Pennsylvania. He is shown as born in Spring Brook, PA, working as a 'bundler' for the Star ??? works in Wilkes Barre.2 He and Rosalia Casterline lived at 37 North Dickerson Street, Laurel Run Borough, Pennsylvania from 1921 to 1967 with Arlene Rose Prutzman. The house had to be destroyed because of underground coal mine fires.5,6

Ervin married Rosalia Casterline, daughter of Mahlon Casterline and Philomena Dinstel, in 1923.7 He registering a female English Setter with the American Kennel Club using a formal registration application in February 1927 at 40 Soxes Street, Wilkes Barre, Pennsylvania. He provided the dog's family backround. His first choice for the dog's name was 'Queen Linden'.8

Ervin Prutzman is shown as head of household on the US census of 9 April 1930 at Laurel Run Borough as Ervin Prutzman. Listed as 35 years old, owner of $3,000 home without a radio and does not live on a farm, married at age 28 years, has not attended school or college in last six months, born in Pennsylvania as was his father and mother, he can read, write and speak English, is a driller with diamond drills but not currently employed, not a veteran. Many nearby Casterline families included: Edward, Joseph, Albert, Mahlon and Raymond. Enumerated with the head of household was/were Rosalia Casterline, Arlene Rose Prutzman, Elsie Prutzman and Phyllis Prutzman.9
He sworn as "Irving Prutzman" to properly discharge his unidentified duties on 22 November 1938 at Pennsylvania. Witnessed by William Williams, Justice of the Peace in Laurel Run Borough, PA. This is thought to be a law enforcement kind of job.10 He registered for the World War II draft in April 1942 at 17 North Dickerson Street, Laurel Run Borough, Pennsylvania. He is shown as 47 years old, born in Spring Brook, PA, on 22 November 1894. He is working for Sprague & Hernwood Drilling Co, of Scranton, PA in Thornhurst, Lackawanna County, Pennsylvania.11 He was employed as a miner for the Kidder-Empire Colliery in December 1951 at Pennsylvania. He was paid $1.79 per hour and also received $.04 per hour for working second shift, $.38 per hour for lunch periods and $1.34 per hour for travel time. The pay stub is not clear of the number of weeks contained in a pay period and other details. His total pay for the period minus taxes (and $16.94 for purchased coal) was $84.93.12 He died of black lung disease (although there is no complete death certificate available from the state of Pennsylvania) on 2 November 1964 at Wilkes Barre at age 69.4,3,13 He was buried in November 1964 in the Fern Knoll Burial Park located in Dallas, Pennsylvania. Ervin's grave is located within a collection of Casterline graves at 160 feet West of Latitude 41.20.47, Longitude 75.58.4.5
