     Charles Edwin Gould was born on 7 November 1861 at Machias, New York, son of Warren Cross Gould and Caroline Belle Ashcraft.2

Charles Edwin Gould was enumerated with Warren Cross Gould on the census of 19 August 1870 at Sheridan Township, Michigan, as Charles E. Gould. Listed as 'attended school', 9 years old and born in NY.3


Charles Edwin Gould was enumerated with Charles E. Walter on the census of 1 June 1880 at Sheridan Township as Edwards Gould. Listed as 'works on farm', 19 years old, (with mother and father born in NY) but since he's living next door to his widowed mother, Caroline, believe this is Charles Edwin Gould.4


Charles married Bertha Rosalia Decker, daughter of John W. Decker and Catherine Metzger, on 5 September 1891 at Ashland, Michigan. Justice Stephen C. Barnum officiated at the wedding. Vital Records indicate Charles occupation is as a carpenter. Witnesses included Riley A. Barnum and Lena Carpenter; both of Ashland, Michigan. The certificate info as opposed to the license info is very difficult to read.5,6,1 At age 31, Charles became the father of Jay A. Gould in June 1893.7 At age 32, Charles became the father of Ray E. Gould on 7 July 1894 at Fremont, Michigan.8,9,10 At age 34, Charles became the father of Charles E. Gould on 26 October 1896 at Brookside, Michigan.11,5,12,10,13 At age 37, Charles became the father of Pearl Mary Gould on 4 March 1899 at Fremont.5,14,15,16

Charles Edwin Gould is shown as head of household on the US census of 1 June 1900 at Thompsonville Colfax Township, Michigan, as Charles E. Gould. Listed as 38 years old, born in November 1862 in New York as were his mother and father. Married 8 years. Rents his home. Employed as a carpenter. Enumerated with the head of household was/were Charles E. Gould, Pearl Mary Gould, Jay A. Gould, Bertha Rosalia Gould and Ray E. Gould.7
Charles became the father of Carrie Gould in 1902 at Michigan.10 Charles became the father of Siamanese twin 1 Gould circa 1903.17 Charles became the father of Siamanese twin 2 Gould circa 1903.17 He was a blacksmith circa 1907 at Rapid River Village, Masonville Township, Michigan.18 At age 45, Charles became the father of Floyd Howard Gould on 3 June 1907 at Rapid River, Michigan.18,1,16,19 Floyd Gould's birth record shows that Charles and Bertha had a total of eight children including Floyd, only six now living. Missing are the siamanese twins and Jay Gould.18

Listed as 47 years old, married 18 years, rents his house, born in New York as was his mother and father, he can read, write and speak English, occupation is as a blacksmith in the smithy business. Enumerated with the head of household was/were Bertha Rosalia Decker, Ray E. Gould, Charles E. Gould, Pearl Mary Gould, Carrie Gould and Floyd Howard Gould.20


Charles Edwin Gould is shown as head of household on the US census of 9 January 1920 at 114 South Jefferson Street, Muskegon, Michigan, as Charles E. Listed as 58 years old; born in New York as were his mother and father; renting the home; can read and write; can speak English; occupation is 'house carpenter'. Enumerated with the head of household was/were Floyd Howard Gould, Bertha Rosalia Decker, Charles E. Gould, Pearl Mary Gould, Carrie Gould and Ray E. Gould.21


Charles married Lillie Carpenter on 19 July 1925 at Lowell, Michigan. The wedding was presided over by Justice of the Peace H. M. Andrews. Attendees included Nellie and Bernadine Andrews of Lowell.22 He was employed as a carpenter.23 He died of chronic myocarditis, nephrititis on 26 February 1939 at Muskegon, Michigan, at age 77.23,1
