     Ingle Oscar Bartleson was born on 13 April 1878 at Oppeneiet, Hadeland, son of Anders Bertelson and Ingeborg Gulbrandson.^1,2 Ingle was a American soldier in the Spanish-American War in 1898.¹

Ingle Oscar Bartleson was on the census of 30 June 1900 at Luzon Province, Phillipine Islands, as Oscar Bartleson. Listed as 22 year old Army Private, born in April 1878 in Norway as were his mother and father, immigrated 8 years ago in 1892, naturalized. Home town is Forest City, Iowa. Can read, write and speak English.³


Ingle married Addine Ingebretson.¹

Ingle Oscar Bartleson was enumerated with Carl Peter Bartleson on the census of 19 April 1910 at Minot, North Dakota, as Oscar Bartleson. Listed as 32 years old, single, brother of Carl Bartleson, born in Norway as were his mother and father, immigrated in 1891, naturalized. Can read, write but not speak English. Occupation is as a brick mason, recently unemployed.²
He registered for the World War One draft on 12 September 1918 at Hoffland, North Dakota. He gave his birthday as 13 April 1878 and his occupation as a farmer in Hoffland, Williams County. He declared that he is a natrualized citizen. He cited Mrs. Addine Bartleson of Hoffland, Williams County as his closest relative.⁴ He died on 18 July 1964 at Whitefish, Montana, at age 86.¹ A biography of the Oscar Bartleson family appeared in the 'Tales of Mighty Mountrail' in 1979. This was written by Helmar Bartleson. The accompanying photo must be wrongly labled since it was Helmar's wife whose name was 'Florence'.⁵
