Athelbert James Alexander lived at Mt Pleasant, Ohio an unknown date . While there Athelbert went into the drug business and practiced medicine for a time. He later studied theology and was ordained by the St. Clairsville Presbyterian Church to preach the gospel. He was instrumental in organizing the churches of Colerain, Scotch Ridge and Portland, and preached at all of those places. He later moved to Warrenton, Ohio and subsequently Scotch Ridge extended a call for his entire time. A manse was erected where they lived during his pastorate at Scotch Ridge. He at one time conducted the most successful evangelistic meetings ever held at Scotch Ridge Church. He was pastor of that church for 14 years. He also practiced medicine very successfully. He and his family lived in Washington, Pennsylvania for a short time. He received a call from the Dallas, West Virginia Presbyterian Church, which he accepted. He remained there until his death. He also organized the Presbyterian Sunday School in Mt. Pleasant, Ohio. He practiced medicine for 20 years and preached for 24 years.
