Robert LaFave, 1958
Robert LaFave OSF was born circa 1938, son of Mose Louis LaFave and Pearl Mary Gould. He was listed as 'Brother Robert LaFave O.S.F.' in his sister Pearl May Dyer's obituary on 4 September 1997 at New York, New York.1 He lived at Mt Alvernia Friary, 105 Prospect Road PO Box 301, Centerport, New York 20 August 2003.2 Brother Robert was visited for a few days by Jim & Carol Radja at Camp Alvernia on Long Island, New York in early December, 2003. They stayed in a Camp Alvernia cabin. After the visit, the Radja's traveled to Philadelphia to witness the Army-Navy football game at Lincoln Financial Field (home of the Philadelphia Eagles) on 6 December. Unfortuneately, the trip to Philadelphia was plagued by snow making the trip dangerous. The weather was so poor that the Radja's left the game early to retreat to their motel in New Jersey. But, Navy won 34 to 6!!3
Robert wrote a letter to Caroline on 25 January 2008 from Camp Alvernia, Centerport, New York. Brother LaFave talked a number of serious medical problems. These apparently led to his death in May 2008. He died on 16 May 2008 at Camp Alvernia, 105 Prospect Road, Centerport, New York.4,5 He was buried on 21 May 2008 in the Holy Rood Cemetery located in Westbury, New York.6 The 2008 first edition of "The Alvernian" included tributes to Robert's memory.
