Ola Fossa
     Reference: 132. Ola Fossĺ was born on 25 March 1883 at Fossĺ, Hjelmeland, son of Haldor Fossaaen and Johanna Johnsdotter.1 Ola arrived as an immigrant in New York in May 1903. He was never to return to Norway.2,1,3 He filed a Declaration of Intention for Naturalization on 4 March 1905 at Eigth Judicial District Court, Minot, North Dakota.2 He filed a Petition for Naturalization on 8 June 1909 at District Court of North Dakota, North Dakota. Farmers Edd Fossaa and John Fossaa of Sorkness, North Dakota signed an affidavit as to Ole's living in the US for the previous five years. Having taken the Oath of Allegiance, he was admitted to US citizenship on 5 November 1909 with Certificate 122001.4 He was granted a US Land Patent for 317.92 acres described as:

on 20 September 1921 at 25-N, Montana.5 As of 20 September 1921, Ola Fossĺ was also known as Ole Fossaa.5

Ola married Haldis Vinje, daughter of Hans Vinje, on 25 October 1936 at North Dakota.6,1 Arthur E. Todd, Ordean Fossaa, Leslie Wheeler, Wesley Wheeler, Ola Fossĺ and Haldis Vinje attended the wedding of Elmer Marvin Bartleson and Elsie Viola Todd on 5 October 1963 at Gospel Tabernacle Church, New Town, North Dakota.7 A biography of Ola and Haldis appeared in the 'Burke County and White Earth Valley Historical Society' book in 1971.3 He died on 20 December 1972 at age 89.1 A biography of Ola and Haldis appeared in the 'Tales of Mighty Mountrail' in 1979.8
