     Constantine Perkins was born in 1846 at Virginia, son of Joseph H. Perkins and Evelina A. Gooch.4

Constantine Perkins was enumerated with Jesse Perkins on the census of 31 August 1850 at Virginia as Constantine Perkins. Listed as 5 years old, white male born in Virginia.5


Constantine Perkins was enumerated with Joseph H. Perkins on the census of 16 July 1860 at Travillians Depot, Virginia, as Constantine Perkins. Listed as 16 years old, white male, born in Virginia. Employed as a laborer.6
He enlisted in the Confederate Army as a Private on 4 February 1862 at Goochland County Court House, Virginia. The Civil War was already into it's eleventh month. His enlistment period was for twelve months. His original enlistment was for H Company of the 2nd Regiment Virginia Artillery. In May of 1862, the Regiment was reorganized into the 2nd and 22nd Battalions Virginia Infantry. Constantine went into H Comany of the 22nd Battalion. Note that the Goochland County Court House is about five miles from the Louisa County border. These units were expected to defend Richmond from the Union Army.7,8,9,10 Constantine was absent on sick furlough in "private quarters" in Louisa County, Virginia in March through April 1862.11 He was admitted on 13 December 1864 at Chimborazo Hospital, Virginia. On 24 December 1864 he deserted the hospital. To go home for Christmas?9,10,11,7 He was admitted on 14 February 1865 at Chimborazo Hospital, Virginia. Soon after he was furloughed for thirty days.9,7,11,10 He as a prisoner of war "having taken the oath of parole" was paroled by the Union Army to return to his home in Louisa County on 5 May 1865 at Ashland, Virginia. He gave his "solemn Parole of Honor not to take part in hostilities against the Government of the United States until properly exchanged". He was indicated to be a farmer on his parole certificate.9,7,11,10

Constantine Perkins is shown as head of household on the US census of 3 August 1870 at Millboro Township, Virginia, as Constantine Perkins. Listed as a white male 25 years old, born in Louisa County, Virginia. Able to read and write. Employed as a railroad laborer.1


Constantine married Mary F. Perkins.4

Constantine Perkins is shown as head of household on the US census of 7 June 1880 at Virginia as Constantious Perkins. Listed as a married, white male, 34 years old, born in Virginia, with father and mother born in Virginia. Able to read and write. Employed as a railroad worker. Listed with Constantious was Julia Timberlake a single, black female, 16 years old, domestic servant of Constantious, who was born in Virginia, with father and mother born in Virginia. Not able to read and write. Enumerated with the head of household was/were Mary F. Perkins, Mary A. Perkins, Baby Perkins, Julia Timberlake and William Carter Perkins.4
