John arrived as an immigrant aboard the SS Neckar departing from Bremen on 9 December 1913 at Ellis Island, New York, New York. He was listed as Polish, Austria ethnicity from Mszanadolna, Galicia. He was listed as age 18, single, a farm laborer. His first name was listed as Johann. He was on his way to Whiting, Indiana.4

John married Angeline Gazek at St Adalbert's Catholic Church, 2124 Indianapolis Boulevard, Whiting, Indiana.1

On 27 April 1942, John registered for the military draft for World War 2. He registered in Whiting, Indiana listing his address as 1138 Daly Rt in Roby of Lake County, age 49 years, five feet six inches and 178 pounds. Born on 24 February 1893 in Mszana Dolna, Poland. He listed his employer as American Maize Products of Roby, Lake County. He listed Joe Dobrowalski of Whiting as someone who would always know his address.2 He died after a long illness on 11 June 1966 at 1616 Kennedy Avenue, Schererville, Indiana, at age 73.5,3 John's obituary appeared in the Hammond Times, Hammond, Indiana, on 13 June 1966.5
