Hartvig Fossĺ was born on 29 December 1884 at Fossĺ, Stavenger, son of
Haldor Fossaaen and
Johanna Johnsdotter.
1 Hartvig arrived as an immigrant aboard the but returned to Norway in the 1930's to run the family farm at Fossĺ. In 1905 at North Dakota.
2 Hartvig arrived as an immigrant aboard the SS Saxonia on 10 May 1907 at Boston, Massachusetts. He says he was accompanied by Ellen Fossaa.
3 He filed a Declaration of Intention for Naturalization on 23 February 1909 at District Court of North Dakota, North Dakota. He now resides at Williston, North Dakota.
1 He filed a Petition for Naturalization on 22 July 1912 at Eleventh Judicial District Court, North Dakota. Farmers Edd Fossaa and Walfred Nelson of White Earth, North Dakota signed an affidavit as to Jacob's living in the US for the previous five years. Having taken the Oath of Allegiance, he was admitted to US citizenship on 5 December 1912 with Certificate 229988.
3 He emigrated in 1935 from North Dakota. He returned to Norway permanently. In 1959, he returned to the US for a visit.
2 The Immigration & Natrualization Service of Washington DC wrote a letter dated 2 September 1958 to the District Court of Mountrail County North Dakota. The letter stated that they had information that Hartvig has lost his US citizenship that was granted by Certificate No. 229988. No reason was given. Any questions were to be addressed to the INS in Washington, DC.
4 Hartvig married
Adlaug Sinnes in November 1961 at Skiftun, Stavenger.
2 A biography of Hartvig appeared in the 'Burke County and White Earth Valley Historical Society' book in 1971.
2 He died in October 1979 at Skiftun at age 94.
