Dear uncle Jakove
Let me write few words. First, let me ask about you dear aunt and about your children. We are all alive and well except uncle Mate who died 10 months ago. We answered on both your letters but we do not know if you received it. Dear uncle I was in the army for four years, now I am at home. I was expecting your letter but it has been 5 months since the last one. That is why I am writing and I am writing from Yugoslavia, let me tell you what is life like now in Yugoslavia. Now it is much better than before. There was a big fight before we liberated Yugoslavia (our Dalmatia suffered under the enemy). Dear uncle now let me write you about my wish, I was born on 30th of September in 1921, I lived at home till I 1937, than I went to Split to become a baker, I worked in a bakery until 1942 than I went home and joined the army, in 1946 I left the army and went home again. Now I am not working and I cannot get my old job back (in Split). I would like to go to America but I cannot get the papers here in Yugoslavia, if you could send me some papers from America that you will guarantee for me. In that way, I can leave Yugoslavia, if I could do it without you I would but it is not possible if somebody does not guarantee for you (like today). So, I would like to ask you again to send it because my biggest wish is to come to America. Maybe life is not so good in America but it is better than here in Dalmatia. If you need something from here write to me and I will send it. I am sending you photography an old one taken 8 years ago. It is not so good because I kept it in my pocket. Two of my brothers are in the army, Jakov was born in 1924 and Grga in 1922. Dear uncle now receive greetings from my brother Jakov and his wife Marija and from your nephews and from your sisters Jandra, Marta and Cvita and their families. Receive greetings from uncle Jure and his family, than from uncle Filip and his family, uncle Ivan and his family in Split, Jure is in Zagreb. Dear uncle greetings to aunt Dragica and your children. Love your nephew Radja Mato
