John Joseph Rupcich, age 87, of Key Colony Beach, FL and Crown Point, IN and formerly of the east side of Chicago, IL, passed away on Sunday, March 30, 2008. John was born on March 7, 1921 in Chicago, IL, to the late Peter and Catherine Rupcich. He is survived by his wife Dorothy Rupcich (nee Granich) of 58 years; son Richard (Maribeth) Rupcich of Valparaiso, IN; daughter Cathy (Timothy) Heidbreder of Crown Point,IN; grandchildren John ( Fiancee Kara) Rupcich, Sara and Megan Rupcich, Michael (Kim) Martin and Julie Martin; great-grandchildren: Jesse Martin and Allison Martin; step-grandchildren: Julie and Aimee Heidbreder, Angie (Doug) Brite, Mason and Ian Brite; brothers Lawrence (late Marceline) Rupcich and William (June) Rupcich; uncle, Robert (late Mary) Perkovich; special friends: Michelle, Craig and Kristen Martin, along with many many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his brother, Joseph (late Dorothy) Rupcich. Funeral prayers will be said on Thursday, April 3, 2008 at 9:15 a.m. at Geisen Funeral, Cremation & Reception Centre (NOTE: NEW LOCATION) at 606 E. 113th Ave., Crown Point, IN (two blocks east of Broadway), followed with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church, 321 E. Joliet Street, Crown Point, IN with Fr. Michael O'Keefe officiating. Interment at Holy Cross Cemetery, Calumet City, IL. Friends may call at the Geisen Funeral, Cremation & Reception Centre on Wednesday, April 2, 2008 from 2:00-8:00 p.m. Mr. Rupcich was a World War II Marine Corps Veteran. He was a Third Degree member of the Knights of Columbus, Council #3755. John was the owner and operator of Rupcich Restaurant in Chicago, IL from 1950 to 1986 and later owned Rupcich Restaurant in Lakes of the Four Seasons. John was the past President of East Side Lions Club and the East Side Chamber of Commerce. He was also the past President of the Chicago National Restaurant Association and Campion Fathers Club. He was the founding director of The East Side Bank and Trust Company and on the Board of Directors of South Chicago Community Hospital. John was an avid Bears and Cubs fan and enjoyed being a season ticket holder of the Chicago Bears. He especially enjoyed his summers at Saugany Lake in Rolling Prairie, IN and wintering in Key Colony Beach, FL. John will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
